OVERVIEW:
The people of every great country are bonded by their history. Its cultural landscape is enriched by the patina of the buildings, monuments, sites, archives and other places of meaning that reflect the events and layers of experiences and process throughout the centuries. The South African Cabinet approved Legacy Project has undertaken, through its agent the National Legacy Committee, to approve and facilitate the setting up of new monuments, museums, plaques, installations, history trails, films and other symbolic representations which will create visible reminders of the many aspects of our formerly neglected heritage.The forefathers and mothers of South Africa stood up against all forms of bigotry, imperialism and oppression by all means. Many lost their lives in the process; however their contribution to the democracy that we enjoy today has not been celebrated or recognized.
